Hydrogen for mobility and energy transition

Through its long experience with Ariane launchers, ArianeGroup has acquired unique know-how in the design, production, testing and operation of liquid hydrogen propulsion systems. We are today making this expertise available to other industrial sectors committed to energy transition, such as the aeronautical, maritime, river or road transport sectors.

A vast field of expertise

ArianeGroup adapts technologies derived from liquid hydrogen space propulsion to meet the needs of heavy-duty air and land mobility systems.

Our expertise encompasses ground infrastructures, equipment and services, without ever losing sight of the safety of people and property, which remains our number one concern.

  • Ground infrastructures: refuelling, storage, test benches, evaporation management, liquefaction, etc.
  • On-board equipment and subsystems: design, development and production. We also have a tried and tested range of equipment (pumps, control valves, lines, tanks, seals, check-valves, reheaters) and subsystems, all meeting the most stringent space transport standards.
  • Services: design, architecture, definition and safety studies; characterisation testing of the materials liable to be in contact with liquid hydrogen and of all the equipment and subsystems which are part of the propulsion system.

One-of-a-kind installations in Europe

ArianeGroup has a number of specialist sites in France (Vernon) and in Germany (Bremen, Ottobrunn, Lampoldshausen, Trauen) covering all liquid hydrogen equipment and subsystems development, qualification, testing and production requirements. The Vernon site is Europe’s largest cryogenic test centre (liquid hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and methane). We place these facilities at the disposal of any industrial firm or other business looking to experiment with hydrogen in complete safety.
